It’s easy to lose focus on ourselves – we get so caught up in our daily lives looking after other people, working, running kids around…. then collapsing into bed at the end of the day with our minds racing thinking about what we have to do tomorrow!
It’s not possible to cancel commitments but it IS possible to change our mindsets, make a conscious effort to ditch our old habits and make small changes which can have big results!
Find your why
Long term weight loss and improvements to your health & fitness are NOT about willpower OR self loathing – but ARE about finding a motivation that scares you, that you want MORE than your excuses not to change.
Stay focused on your WHY, your MOTIVATION and the REASONS you want to stay fit and healthy!
Think of movement as an opportunity, not an inconvenience and aim to be active every day in as many ways as you can – take the stairs instead of the lift or escalator, park a few extra blocks away from where you need to go and walk the rest of the way, stand up from your chair every hour & pump out 20 squats and 10 pushups.
Put together at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most days and if possible a couple of high intensity sessions each week to mix things up a bit. Click here for a fun little 10 minute workout!
Mindset & Mindfulness
Start by loving yourself first, and making sure YOU are the number one priority in your life. Be mindful about what, when and how you eat. Eat less processed food, more wholefoods (wholegrains, vegetables and lean protein) and practice eating mindfully. Sit down for all your meals & use all your senses to take notice of what and how you’re eating. Take 10 minutes every day to be mindful in your life too – put down the screen and just “be”. Meditate, take a walk, read a book but again, use all your senses to really stop and take in your surroundings & how you’re feeling.
“A comfort zone is a lovely place, but nothing grows there.”
Get outside to exercise, book in a challenge either solo or with a group, start an exercise program or a social sport. Think of something you have always wanted to do but fear has gotten in the way and work towards achieving that goal. YOU are accountable for your life so take control of it!
Before you talk to others AND yourself ask yourself these questions –
Is it true?
Is it necessary?
And will it do good?
Practice gratitude, see challenges as opportunities and lessons to be learned but above all, be kind in all of your thoughts, words and actions.
